The LECA welcomes every year new members at different levels of their career, from masters to post-doctoral students. Calls are regularly made and open applications are welcome.

Master 2 internships

New internships with convention, particularly for M2 students (5 to 6 months), are proposed for 2024-2025 on the effect of invasive species on amphibian diversity, with a focus on newts and environmental context. This includes a part at the university in Liege (writing, multivariate modeling (GLMM) and GIS cartography) and one in the field in spring in Croatia (late March - end of June; at least two binomials of students each year (3 internships available); one PhD student being present in the field during all the fieldwork period + Co/supervisition by PI in Liege and Croatia). The call is currently open.

Examples of publications in direct connection with the current internships:

Biol. Cons. 2009 - Ecol. Monogr. 2019 - Biol. Inv. 2022 - Biol. Inv. 2023

Internships are unpaid but there are possibilities of funding (ERASMUS IN or OUT). Internships typically start around February at the University of Liege. Students from other institutions can apply for internships and those who are selected will have the official status of exchange student at ULiège.

Those interested in an internship are advised to contact the laboratory (contact: Mathieu Denoël) sufficiently in advance in order to finalize the organization of the work (several months before the beginning of the internships; there is no deadline but the internships are filled as they come along). Applications must be accompanied by a detailed curriculum vitae (with a list of grades / honours and rankings obtained each year in addition to aacdemic transcripts) as well as a letter of motivation, all in pdf format, to be sent by email, with the word INTERNSHIP at the beginning of the header followed by the chosen internship(s).

See the team and alumni page for links to publications resulting from work carried out by students who have come to the laboratory for internships. There are also possibilities to continue to a PhD after the Master 2 intership (see hereunder).

Doctoral and post-doctoral fellowships

Applications for 4-yr PhD and 1 to 3-yr post-doctoral fellowships are possible for projects on the conservation ecology of amphibians and freshwater biodiversity. The deadlines to apply for a PhD fellowship (via competition) are in February and end of August of each year. For post-docs, it is in January (3-yr post-doc - FNRS), May (1-yr post-doc) or September (Marie Curie, 2-yr post-doc). Expertise in the field is required and, for post-docs, a sufficient number of publications is necessary.

Interested candidates can contact the laboratory several months in advance in order to submit their initial application and, for the candidates selected by the laboratory, to prepare in time for the writing of the application file for the competition, with the support of the laboratory. Applications should be sent by email (contact: Mathieu Denoël) and should be accompanied by a detailed curriculum vitae (with a list of grades / honours and rankings obtained each year as well as academic transcripts), a letter of motivation, letters of reference (or names and contact details of referees) and, if applicable, a copy of the master thesis). The attached files must be in pdf format only.
